Stars and Stripes Burlap Wreath...Just Tie It!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Stars and Stripes Burlap Wreath...Just Tie It!4 I am excited because it’s time for our monthly No-Sew Showcase and this time our theme is PATRIOTIC DIY…just in time for Flag Day today and perfect for a head start for the 4th of July! I love adding some red, white and blue, but I still need to have a little vintage or rustic edge…and my stars and stripes burlap wreath does just that!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Stars and Stripes Burlap Wreath...Just Tie It! Supplies It’s super easy and inexpensive, too! Here’s what you will need:
  • A Styrofoam wreath form (Mine is 18 inches)
  • Burlap in stars and stripes patterns (Mine is actually burlap ribbon from Walmart. I used 2 1/2 rolls of the stripes and about 1/2 of a roll of the stars. Each roll was 10 feet long and 5 1/2 inches wide.
  • Jute twine for hanging the wreath

closeup And here’s what you will do:
  1. Cut the ribbon into 17 inch pieces and then cut the pieces in half lengthwise, leaving each piece about 2 inches wide. If you are not using ribbon, but are using burlap fabric, cut 17 x 2 inch pieces. The number of pieces that you will need depends on the fabric that you are using.
  2. Tie the pieces onto the wreath form using single knots since the fabric is so bulky, placing them very close together and adjust them, first to the left and then the next one to the right, alternating directions so that the wreath form doesn’t show through. Cover about 3/4 of the form with the stripe and the rest of the form with the stars.
  3. Tie a length of jute twine to the form at the place where the stars and stripes meet near the top. This will be your hanger.
And that’s it! Easy peasy!

  11. Debbie, you are brilliant and my inspiration! I've been hard at work but plan to send you some photos of what I'm up to w/July 4th/July decor.... doing over my sunporch and some other spaces before we get a new bull mastiff in our family...our 11 yr old passed on 3/31/15, leaving us so sad. Happily, the little grand is coming for summer Fridays at Grammy and Grampie's summer Friday camp, so we will post some crafts. xoxo

  14. I LOVE the wreath too as many others do! However, my two Walmart's in northern Indiana do not have the burlap ribbon. When I describe the blue one with stars, they tend to look at me like I've lost my mind. (Close, but not yet!) I will now have to go above and beyond and see if I can find it on-line. :( (Could not even find anything even close that would look at nice!)

  16. Hello: Just love this wreath! But what do you mean by "tie it." I couldn't tell if it meant in a bow or what........? Please describe further! Judy H.

    1. So glad that you like it, Judy! I used double knots. That seems to support the fabric a little better. Hugs...Debbie

    1. I saw it at the Walmart near me at the beginning of the summer but I haven't looked lately.

    2. I just love this wreath! So cute! I was wondering what section of Walmart did you find the ribbon in? Was it the section with all of the other ribbon or somewhere else? I have checked 2 Walmarts near me and neither had anything close. Thank you!

    3. I found it in the section with the items for Memorial Day and the 4th of July at the beginning of the summer. I am sure it is gone by now but be on the lookout next year since I have seen it there 2 years in a row.
