A Visit to the Lavender Farm

Last weekend I had an opportunity to do something that I have been wanting to do for a while…visit a working lavender farm! I never dreamed that it was possible right here in Georgia but then I discovered that Ooh La La Lavender Farm in Eatonton was hosting their annual Lavender Festival! There is nothing like that wonderful fragrance and I knew there would be lots of handmade lavender-based goodies to check out as well.

Abbaye_de_Sénanque_(Gordes-Vaucluse)_vue_du_NordAnd…does anything say France more than a field of lavender? My traveling buddy and BFF Nan and I visited the Abbaye de Sénanque several years ago during our trip to Provence. It’s the ancient building often found in the background of iconic photos of lavender fields in France. It was an experience that I will never forget so I was excited to find a little bit of Provence right here in Georgia!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender FarmThe farm is located down a winding dirt road in an old pecan orchard…miles from anywhere! Ahhh! Gotta love being out in the country! There were horses and ponies, lots of chickens with a very vocal rooster and fun things for the kids to do as well. At the center of the operation was this barn…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm …where we were able to check out the wonderful products straight from the farm such as handmade lavender soaps that smelled heavenly…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy Lavender Goats Milk Soap You may remember that I shared my secrets for making super easy homemade lavender goats milk soap…with Baby Kitty’s approval! I had some difficulty finding lavender buds to add to it…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm …so I was happy to see that you could buy pretty little pouches of their dried lavender buds fresh from the farm!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm There was even a little pique-nique à la française set up in the back of an old pick-up truck to add to the ambiance!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm But the best part…a hayride out to the lavender field! I could have stayed there all day, enjoying that heavenly scent!

There was even something I had never seen before...white lavender! Sort of a contradiction in terms, huh?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm And...I got to take a turn at harvesting the lavender! Well, I was actually faking it, but it was still fun!   ;-)

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender Farm And there you have it…literally just cut from the field and one of the things I came to the farm to get…a bouquet of fresh lavender! Ahhhh!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT A Visit to the Lavender FarmAnd…the other thing on my very short list of must haves from the farm…homemade lavender ice cream! Yum! I was a happy camper…ice cream and a bouquet! (It always helps to have very achievable short term goals! lol) What a wonderfully relaxing day…and sure to make the annual list of things to do!

  7. What fun! Thanks for sharing. Driving through the south of France last June, we were surprised to find a couple of fields in bloom, even though it was early in the season for that area. I was sure it was a special gift just for me! I came home and planted my own "lavender fields"--10 plants!--and they are in bloom right now. And we recently discovered a lavender farm in Abiquiu, NM, and will be going there next month for their lavender festival. (We live in Albuquerque.) Lavender lovers unite!

  9. I'm jealous! We had to cancel our trip to the Red Rock Lavender Festival here in Arizona last week. Our daughter was having surgery the day we had planned to go. There's always next year is what I've been saying for the 3 years I've known about the festival, and so I'll wait until next year and enjoy reading about your trip as well as go out and visit my own lavender plants..

  10. I live in Georgia and had no idea there was a lavender farm, much less a lavender festival! I'll have to put it on my calendar for next year.

  11. What a great trip. Not sure where I can get fresh lavender here in TX? Well at least I know I do a road trip to GA instead of Washington State.
    Have a great day.

  12. I live just an hour away and have never heard of this festival. Is it a yearly event? Is there a link to the farm? You are so lucky.
