Hi everyone! If it's Monday evening, it must be time for another edition of The Scoop! It's a busy summer for me and I am sure it is for you, too, so we are very appreciative that you are stopping by! It wouldn't be a party without the guests! Sooo....let's get this party started!

We are

and Suzy from Worthing Court

Our host this week is...

Hi, everyone! I can't believe that the 4th of July is almost here! So to celebrate a little early, I thought I would share some of my own patriotic projects with you, including my Pottery Barn inspired stars and stripes burlap pillow! I think the burlap adds texture and a vintage feel that looks right at home almost anywhere.

And I am excited to join my Country French design group for our monthly share. This time it's Dining Outdoors...French Style. The weather is perfect for le petit déjeuner on the patio, so head on over and join me. I have set the table with my favorite French dinnerware, too!

And I am also excited to share some of my favorites from your fun ideas for the 4th of July that you have posted at the Scoop over the last few weeks! You all are really knocking my socks off with your fabulous inspiration!

And now...here's what caught my eye at last week's Scoop...

Serendipity Refined showed us how to use milk paint as a stain when she made over her fabulous bergère chairs...always one of my favorite styles!

Cottage in the Oaks shared her broken birdbath repurposed as a mini succulent garden...great idea!

I love this light white natural foyer from The Nest at Finch rest! So pretty!

And now for a few more ideas for the 4th of July...like this patriotic wreath from Our Home Away from Home. So fun and festive!

And finally, who wouldn't love this one...an edible Old Glory from Celebrate Creativity...all of my favorites on a skewer!

And now...show us what you've got this week!

Thank you for linking up, friends!

Dining Outdoors...French Style

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French StyleI am excited to join our Country French design group this month with a theme that fits perfectly for me…dining outdoors French style…although technically, I suppose I am breakfasting! I love summer mornings and can be found starting almost every day on my patio. It’s still cool and the birds are very busy at the feeders, serenading me with their morning songs.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French Style I set the table with extra care today since I knew you were coming! I’ve used a soft pink toile matelassé coverlet as my tablecloth…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lunéville Old Strasbourg Rose place setting …and I’m using my favorite French faïence dinnerware…Lunéville Old Strasbourg. It’s so pretty and delicate…perfect for breakfast. But it has special meaning to me because it is manufactured in Lunéville, France…a wonderful little town in the heart of the Lorraine region and only a short distance from the little town where I lived.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lunéville Old Strasbourg Rose It actually comes in two different patterns starring a rose

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Lunéville Old Strasbourg Tulip …or a tulip. I love the shape and the little scattering of smaller flowers around the rim!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French StyleI have to admit, though, that I have strayed a little from my French theme and added my favorite pink depression glass since it is such a wonderful complement to the pink flowers on the dinnerware. My Red Cliff ironstone coffee pot is doing double duty today as a tea pot. Sorry, my francophile friends…no café au lait this morning!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pink Depression Glass I’ve placed lemon slices on this delicate little pink depression glass bonbon dish…just the perfect size!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French Style And I am sharing one of my newest thrifting finds…a grapey twist-handled butter knife in my favorite silverplate pattern…Rogers Brothers Vintage. It is accompanying another favorite find…this wonderful little vintage roll-top butter dish.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French Style I’ve added a basket to hold French bread and more pink depression glass bowls…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French Style …filled with fresh peaches and blackberries that I picked up at a North Georgia farm stand yesterday. The peaches will top my cereal and I do believe that the blackberries are destined for a cobbler! ;-)

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Shabby Picnic Basket PlanterBeside the table you can see my shabby picnic basket planter, making its appearance for the fourth year and filled with happy begonias. Beside it is my Walking Iris, finally blooming this summer for the first time after eight years of waiting! :-)

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French Script Bird Pillow A pair of vintage French script bird pillows that I made last year can be found in the frenchy painted wrought iron chairs. You can see how I did it plus find the free download for the birds here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Dining Outdoors...French Style Here’s a final look. I have to admit that I don’t start every morning like this, but it’s nice to do it occasionally!

Baby Kitty As for Baby Kitty, he has joined my on the patio but is much more interested in the birds at the feeder, as you can see! Don’t worry…he’s too slow to do anything other than just look!

Pottery Barn Inspired Stars and Stripes Burlap Pillow

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Stars and Stripes Burlap PillowCan you believe that it’s almost the 4th of July? I have been thinking about making a pillow for the occasion but had not been able to find the just-right fabric that I wanted. But then yesterday, when I walked into Walmart, the heavens opened up and a ray of light fell on bolts of burlap in both the stars and the stripes patterns! ♪♫ Ahhhhhhhh! ♪♫ (Cue the choir!) I already knew exactly what I was going to do!

img57cAnd here is my inspiration…Pottery Barn’s American flag pillow cover! But, as you can see, I made a few changes. I decided to let the stripes run vertically rather than horizontally since I think that did a better job of suggesting the American flag. And I loved the burlap rather than the canvas since it has more of a vintage look.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Stars and Stripes Burlap PillowI simply pieced the stars and stripes together, allowing the stars to cover 1/3 of my pillow cover front and the stripes the other 2/3 of the cover. I allowed a total measurement of the pillow insert plus one inch for the seam.  Since my pillow insert (a $3.00 Goodwill find) was 18 inches, the star portion was approximately 6 1/2 inches wide and the stripes were 12 1/2 inches wide. I was careful to center the stars and the stripes so that they appear in their entirety…no partial stars or stripes showing.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Poetry Pillow and Envelope Closure TutorialFor the pillow back, I used burlap to create an envelope-style pillow closure. You will find a detailed tutorial here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Stars and Stripes Burlap Pillow Then I simply sewed the two sides together, popped in the pillow insert and…taaa daaa! I love it! It’s easy to over-do holiday décor for me and the vintage look is a better fit in my home.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fun Ideas for the 4th of July And just in case you are looking for some more fun last-minute ideas for the 4th of July, check out these great projects that were shared at The Scoop by clicking here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Easy No-Bake Strawberry Tunnel Cake And if you need a super-easy last minute summery dessert, here’s my no-bake strawberry tunnel cake! It’s festive and yummy and will not heat up your kitchen!
