More Fun Projects with Chalkboard Paint

The school year is just about to start up again and the teacher in me is thinking about freshly-sharpened pencils, book bags and…chalkboards!  Sooo…I thought I would round up my most recent projects using chalkboards and chalkboard paint!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Birds on a StringOne of my favorites is this one…my chalkboard birds on a string! The best thing about this project is that it was absolutely free! I asked you to help me think of six letter words that I could use in addition to spring and here are a few…summer, flower, blooms…and now we can add another one…school!

KITTYMiss Kitty thinks her idea is the best…catnip!

Here's  another way to use chalkboard paint...turn an old picture frame into a little chalkboard. I have this one, made with my Ballard bargains...a boxwood wreath and French script ribbon...hanging near my backdoor to welcome my "backdoor friends."

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Flower Pots Another fun project is my chalkboard flower pots! They make great containers for herbs or fun gifts with the greeting written on the chalkboard label. They are inexpensive and super-easy to make. Wouldn't it be nice to bring one to the teacher on "meet the teacher" day?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsGot an old Scrabble game? Then you’ve got almost all that you need for these fun chalkboard tile place cards! As soon as I saw them in the Pottery Barn catalog, I knew I had to make my own version!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Yardstick Framed Chalkboard And finally, vintage yardsticks and some slate from Michael’s came together to make this yardstick chalkboard! I love the old-fashioned look!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fun Ways to Use ChalkboardsAnd just in case you missed it, here is the first set of chalkboard projects that I shared with you earlier this year…everything from wine glasses to labels, tags and more place cards.

I have been having fun with chalkboards…can you tell? However, I have to confess that on the first day of school, this retired teacher will be on the patio having my first cup of coffee and listening as the school bus drives through the neighborhood! Ahhhh!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my chalkboard projects! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

The Scoop

More exposure + less time = win win!

 We are
Anita from Cedar Hill Ranch,
Linsey from Farmhouse Porch,
Debbie from Confessions of a Plate Addict
and Anne from White Lace Cottage.
We will be joined by our guest hosts again in the fall.

This week's features were chosen by Linsey from Farmhouse Porch .

Linsey, who has an obsession for adorable guest cottages, loved  this one by Fairhope Supply Co. Head on over to peek at the interior. And...you will never guess how this cottage was used when it was first built!

Lovin' this shabby, beachy cabinet-scape by Walnut & Vine!  Don't you adore the little truck...her newest flea market find!

Linsey says she has always wanted an old enamel bread bin and this blue one is lovely...shared by sweet Pernilla of Swedish Corner Down Under.  You must go check out her blue enamelware collection!

This old truck from Linda of White Weathered Hutch had Linsey green with envy! Linda set out antiquing in this and brought home this...

...a fabulous vintage apple box that she found for a bargain price!  Lovely!

Best Corn on the Cob Ever...and the Easiest!

Want to know how to make the best corn on the cob ever without heating up your kitchen? An armload of fresh Silver Queen corn from a friend reminded me that I haven't shared my secret with you this summer! And...there's still lots of time left for summer cook-outs and family get-togethers...

I don’t know about you, but with all the rain, heat and humidity this summer, I need to stay out of the hot kitchen while cooking for my family! Sooo…I thought I would share with you this super easy and super cool way to prepare one of my favorites…corn on the cob! And I promise…once you’ve had it this way, you will never do it any other way!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Best Corn on the Cob Ever A friend's trip to my favorite produce stand in the North Georgia mountains netted me some fabulously fresh Silver Queen corn…yum! I left it in the husks so that I could prepare it my new favorite way…in the microwave! Yes…husks and all!  It’s super easy! Just put a wet paper towel in the bottom of your microwave and add the corn. I microwave two ears at a time for a total of five minutes, stopping to turn them over half way through. Here’s a chart if you want to do more, but I found that a little additional time needs to be added. When they are done, just wrap them in a kitchen towel for five minutes and then remove the husks and silks. And that’s it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Best Corn on the Cob Ever The husks keep the corn really fresh tasting as it cooks in its own natural moisture and the husks and silks are actually easier to remove once they have been cooked. Then just add butter and salt and pepper...yummy!

Kitty Miss Kitty and the rest of the staff are taking it easy this summer and staying out of the heat! We are hoping that you have found somewhere cool and shady to relax, too! I know that’s what I will be doing!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my super easy corn on the cob! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
