Frenchy {Aged Paper} Candle Wraps

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle WrapsWant to learn how to age paper and spiff up your old candles? Then I have just the project for you! It’s super easy and doesn’t take long, either. It’s my frenchy vintage-look paper candle wraps!

KittyOur scheduled co-host, Miss Kitty is not available at the moment. She is too busy checking out the visitors at the bird feeder from her perch on my grandsons’ swing set. I guess I will be going it alone…again! I may have to begin docking some pay for my staff!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle Wraps I don’t know about you, but I am finding that my pillar candle collection is looking a little bedraggled and in need of a facelift. They are all different colors…varying shades of cream and white…and different sizes. Sooo…I have come up with a way to give them a more unified look with the vintage touches that I love! And if those numbers look familiar…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins …it’s because I used the same graphics to create my French farmhouse numbered napkins! I liked them so much that I wanted to use them again! Thanks so much to Karen at The Graphics Fairy for sharing the wreath with us. I just added the numbers.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Numbered Candle Wraps 5 and 6

First, you will need to print the numbers. If you click on them, you will see that the graphics are arranged in five sets of two numbers…1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8 and 9 and 0. You will need to print them as five different pages to get the right size for your pillar candles. They will need to run horizontally to be long enough to wrap around the candles. *Note...I have added numbers 7, 8, 9 and 0 at the request of a reader. The zero could be used if you want to have individual candles for the date such as 2019.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT How to Age Paper Here’s what you will do:
  1. Cut the printed numbers into 4 1/4  by 11 inch strips…in other words, in half lengthwise.
  2. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Place two of the number strips on the sheet and cover with strong coffee. Let them soak for a few minutes until the entire strip is wet.
  3. Pour off the remaining coffee. You can save it for the next set of strips.
  4. Place in a preheated 200 degree oven for roughly 5 minutes. IMPORTANTDo NOT leave them unattended or let them stay in the oven too long. You can tell that they are just about ready when the edges begin to curl. The coffee will evaporate and leave the strips stained and aged-looking. Remove them from the oven and let them cool.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle Wraps Finally, wrap the number strips around the pillar candles and secure them with a piece of jute twine. Make sure that the paper will be far enough away from the candle flame if you intend to light them. As with any lighted candles you would not want to leave them unattended. I probably will not light mine anyway but just use them for decoration.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Fairy Tale Book CoversYou might recognize the aged paper tutorial from my vintage French fairy tale book covers. You can find out how to make these using the free graphic that I created here. I chose my two favorite tales from one of my favorite classic French authors…Charles Perrault…and featured the fabulous illustrations of Gustave Doré.

I also used the same method to create my Country Living inspired filament bulb candles...gotta love the vintage look! You will find a complete tutorial, including a link to the graphics, by clicking here.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Aged Paper Candle WrapsAnd here’s another look! I placed them in my grandmother’s dough bowl, anchored with dried black beans. Got to love the frenchiness and they were so easy to make. And…best of all...they were FREE! Woo hoo! You can’t beat that!

Finding French Farmhouse Style...at a Farm Supply Store!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style...from Tractor SupplyI have found a new place to shop for French farmhouse style decor…and you are not going to believe where it is…Tractor Supply Company! Yep…you read that right! I have been thinking about heading over for several months now…thinking that at the very least I would find a nice variety of galvanized items at a reasonable price. But I was not prepared for all that I did see!

Vintage Style Milk Bottle CarrierDid you know that there is a little decor section? Yep…there is! And the first thing I spotted was this wonderful vintage-style milk bottle carrier…for under $20! Woo hoo! That’s at least $5.00 less than the cheapest I have seen and, for me…no shipping to pay! There was also a great wooden box with a handle that tempted me, but this one won!

Galvanized Bucket And I just fell in love with this great galvanized bucket…in an unusual low profile shape. Love it!  And the price…wait for it!…under $6.00! Whaaat? There are also several other sizes as well…from smaller to larger.

Mercury Glass Solar Mason Jar I was excited to find this mercury glass solar Mason jar light for my patio! I can’t wait to see how it looks tonight!

Hummingbird FeederI saw my first hummingbird today at my French lavender and I knew it was time to put the feeder out…but alas, mine was less than beautiful. So I was pleased to see this pretty one with an unusual vintage iron finish. I hope the hummingbirds like it as much as I do!

Jute Twine And finally…some of you may not be too impressed by this, but I snatched it right up…520 feet of jute twine for only $3.19! Woo hoo! I go through a bunch of that stuff! I only wish I had brought my camera! There was so much more…bushel baskets, great egg cartons, canning jars, beautiful plants, really cute little toy farm animals, children’s watering cans, cat toys…I could go on and on!

Ozzie Wait…Ozzie says…Cat toys? Sooowhy didn’t you bring some home for us? Silly kitty! She knows we grow our own catnip and make our own toys! And just in case you are thinking my window is dirty…

Spider WebWell…maybe it is! But you can also see the remnants of this…a fabulous web that the spider spins again each night. Here’s how it looks through the window first thing in the morning…covered with dew. Pretty, isn’t it?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style...from Tractor Supply And here is a final look at my frenchy farmhouse finds! Aren’t they amazing? I'll be showing you more of how I used them later. And can you believe where they came from? I will definitely be going back…and they are not even paying me to say that!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek at my frenchy farmhouse finds! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

DIY Vintage French Script Bird Pillows

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Vintage French Script Bird PillowsI can’t wait to show you this super-easy, fun and very stylish project...and I even have a no-sew option! I have been eyeing those wonderful pillows that combine one of my favorites…French document fabric...with fabulous vintage prints. I have seen them featured at $85 but I have yet to see one that looked exactly like what I had in mind. Then it dawned on me…why not just make my own?

A Few Goodwill Hunting Trophies

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting TrophiesIn my last post I took you Goodwill hunting with me and showed you all of the wonderful little treasures that I found. (If you missed that post and want to have a peek at it, click here.) I also asked if you could guess what actually came home with me and promised to tell you!

Baby KittyFirst I have to say that I have come to understand that it’s OK to leave some of the wonderful things that I find for someone else to enjoy. But there are some things that just insist on coming home with me. Baby Kitty is giving you a hint already…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting Trophies …and if you guessed the vintage French books (at $13 for the pair) and the art nouveau vase (at only $10), you would be right! They were just calling my name!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting Trophies And here they are looking quite at home with the Plate Addicts! And I must add that they have a heaviness and feel of importance that I love!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting Trophies I filled the vase with some of my yellow knockout roses…my new favorites! They are blooming profusely right now and, unlike the other varieties, they have a fabulous fragrance that is filling my house! Only one problem…the roses hide those fabulous art nouveau handles!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting TrophiesThe two volume vintage set of French books…La France: Géographie, Tourisme from Larousse is not only pretty, but has been a lot of fun! They are filled with old maps and tons of vintage black and white photos from the early 1950s.

Yellow Knockout Rose I am drawn to the farm animals…especially the cows! I think it is because our neighbors had cows when I was a little girl and my sister and I used to feed them grass and pet them.

My favorite breed (What? You don’t have a favorite breed of cattle? lol) is the beautiful all-white Charolais which originated in Charolles, France. I first saw them dotting the patchwork fields in Bourgogne when I was in school in Dijon. And now…many years later…my neighbor around the corner has them in his pasture here in Georgia!

There are also some interesting photos of people at work…such as these children helping with the grape harvest in Provence…

…and the very laborious task of gathering chestnuts while confined in all those layers of clothing! Love the hats! And yes…I will take those wooden boxes, thank you very much!

But here is the photo that blew me away...especially right now with the film festival underway on the sunny French Rivera. Yes…that is Cannes struggling under a very unusual winter snow! Just look at those palm trees along Boulevard de la Croisette with the snowy domes of the Carlton visible in the distance!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting TrophiesAnd there you have them…my Goodwill hunting trophies from my most recent thrifting expedition! I hope you enjoyed having a little peek inside my "new" vintage books. I only wish you could smell the roses!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed going Goodwill hunting with me! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!
