Pottery Barn Inspired {Chalkboard Tile} Place Cards

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsNow you all know what a big, fat copy cat I am, so when I saw the slate tile place cards in the Pottery Barn fall preview, I knew I had found my next inspiration! Could it be any simpler…or cuter?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place Cards And do you see what it is? Yes…it’s the holder and tiles from a Scrabble game re-purposed as place card holders! Woo hoo! I finally found a new use for that old game that has been in my closet for ages! I simply stained the tile holders using Minwax Gunstock to give them a more vintage look. Then I spray-painted some of the tiles using chalkboard paint! Easy peasy!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsAnd now, each time I have guests over for dinner, all I have to do is erase and change the letter tiles to spell the names! Is that a great idea or what?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place Cards The Pottery Barn version uses slate, but I really can’t see a difference. Besides…their version is $20 for a set of two (and is not even available yet) and mine was…wait for it…free! Woo hoo!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Pottery Barn Inspired Chalkboard Tile Place CardsIn fact, I think this is such a good idea that I might just suggest to my grandson that we do that to all the Scrabble tiles and invent a new version…DIY Scrabble…where we add in whatever letters we want! Hmmm…or is that somewhat like stacking the deck on Candyland so that he would win? Now…don’t tell me you have never done that! Sometimes a granny has to do what a granny has to do!

Baby Kitty and Naughty Cat And as for my co-host today…Baby Kitty is busy keeping an eye on Naughty Neighbor who has dropped by to see how the caged catnip is faring!  Very well, thank you…and out of your reach! It seems that when it comes to safe-guarding his catnip, a cat has to do what a cat has to do!

  5. I love this! I actually use the scrabble letters around the house like a lot of people. I definitely intend to do this with some tiles I have here. I'm so glad I was scrolling down my dashboard today and saw this.

  11. Hi Debbie - where do I start... you have the PB preview copy already????? I'm stalking the mailman!!! Second... I'm laughing at what a DIY Clutz I am... I tried to do the same for our friend's welcome home party around ST. Pats Day... and didn't even think of using the holders. DUH! I love the frugal copy of my favorite stores - great job! 18. It is so funny....I had torn out the page from the catalog to do the same thing. My girls are getting them for Christmas. I always buy Scrabble games at garage sales. They are getting harder to find, but are still out there. So....if you turn a few pages further in the catalog, you'll see the really cool "WINE" sign made out of old cutting boards and pizza boards plus letters. Already purchased some boards and hoping to do the same thing. Love me some Pottery Barn!
