Best Corn on the Cob Ever...and the Easiest!

Want to know how to make the best corn on the cob ever without heating up your kitchen? An armload of fresh Silver Queen corn from a friend reminded me that I haven't shared my secret with you this summer! And...there's still lots of time left for summer cook-outs and family get-togethers...

I don’t know about you, but with all the rain, heat and humidity this summer, I need to stay out of the hot kitchen while cooking for my family! Sooo…I thought I would share with you this super easy and super cool way to prepare one of my favorites…corn on the cob! And I promise…once you’ve had it this way, you will never do it any other way!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Best Corn on the Cob Ever A friend's trip to my favorite produce stand in the North Georgia mountains netted me some fabulously fresh Silver Queen corn…yum! I left it in the husks so that I could prepare it my new favorite way…in the microwave! Yes…husks and all!  It’s super easy! Just put a wet paper towel in the bottom of your microwave and add the corn. I microwave two ears at a time for a total of five minutes, stopping to turn them over half way through. Here’s a chart if you want to do more, but I found that a little additional time needs to be added. When they are done, just wrap them in a kitchen towel for five minutes and then remove the husks and silks. And that’s it!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Best Corn on the Cob Ever The husks keep the corn really fresh tasting as it cooks in its own natural moisture and the husks and silks are actually easier to remove once they have been cooked. Then just add butter and salt and pepper...yummy!

Kitty Miss Kitty and the rest of the staff are taking it easy this summer and staying out of the heat! We are hoping that you have found somewhere cool and shady to relax, too! I know that’s what I will be doing!

  7. I have a funny story about doing corn in the microwave ... years ago I was dating a man, fixing a lovely summer dinner for us ++ four guests. I put corn in the microwave just the way you do and he said 'THAT'S NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT" ... as a mature woman in my early 60's then, I knew we weren't going to be the best match. And we weren't. Here's to corn cooked properly.

  9. Okay - it sounds a bit scary but I am trying this tonight as we JUST bought some fresh corn from a farmer's yard yesterday. Thanks for the information!

  10. We had fresh corn at our beach house this weekend -- I steamed it in my usual way. Delicious of course.... but the funny thing is, my daughter (visiting from California) told me about the microwave method.

I will have to try it. This weekend I was cooking too many ears to do just a couple at a time!

I loathe husking corn, and it it makes the process easier, that alone is worth switching methods. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.
Your blog is just so gorgeous!

  11. Debbie. - I think you are fan-tastic and I'm only sharing this link with you because I think you deserve it ;). Http:/YouTube.com/watch?v=YnBF6bv4Oe4. If that doesn't work search the video Shucking corn -- clean ears Everytime. I've fought corn silk since the early 60's living on the farm with a one acre garden and can only wish we'd had microwaves then! (standard joke - how do you know the corn's ready to pick? When the cows jump the fence!!!).

  17. Do you put the corn right on top of the wet paper towel?

  18. Okay, I love this method of doing corn on the cob...we've been doing it all summer! But, here's something that makes it even easier...after the corn has set for a minute, take a potholder and a sharp knife, cut off the end of the corn on the wide end, about 2-2 1/2 inches up from the bottom. Make sure you have cut off a piece of the corn, grab by the top (with a potholder), hold it up and shake out your corn onto the plate. NO shucking, NO silk to remove...nice and clean and slick!! Tah-Dah!!
