A Little Goodwill Hunting...and More

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Goodwill Hunting and More I have been stuck at home with some sort major bug and was finally feeling good enough today to do something I have been missing…a little Goodwill hunting! I am always telling you about my bargains but this time I thought I would just bring you along for the hunt! And I must say that it was an unusually good day, too…not that I bought it all because I didn’t. I am trying to make myself understand that sometimes things can be pretty…for someone else. See if you can spot the items that I actually did buy.

lamp First item I spied was this oh-so-frenchy lamp! Can you imagine it with some Annie Sloan Old White paint and a little distressing? Fabulous! Like most of the things I will show you, it was under $12. That seems to be the magic limit in my brain past which it just says No, no…not buying this.

urnI love this wonderful vase…or is it an urn? It has those frenchy art nouveau details that I like and a sort of vintage trophy feel. It was nice and heavy and only $10…not bad at all.

tureen Oh, my! Just look at this tureen! It jumped in my cart and rode around for a while.  After all…it’s only $6.00 and I could just imagine the hutch all filled with white tureens!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Style on a Budget But I will tell you that in the end I had to put it back because…I already have one! You can see more of it here.

globeHere’s a great little vintage-look globe with the tags still on it from World Market. Their price…$24  and Goodwill’s price…$5.00…fun!

wooden trays I also spied two wooden trays at $5.00 each and could imagine them painted distressed white with a fabulous frenchy graphic from the Graphics Fairy in the center!

trays Then there was a stack of old silverplate trays…some of them engraved and one of them sporting a grape trim…my favorite motif! And…they were all under $10! Woo hoo!

champagne bucketAnd here’s a silverplate champagne bucket in need of a good polishing and pushing my price limit at $15…but a bargain for something like that!

cutting board I was tempted by this old well-worn cutting board at only $2.52. You may remember a similar cutting board that was used to make…

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Monogrammed Serving Board …this…my Pottery Barn inspired monogrammed serving board. You can get the details on how to make it here. I said I might like to make another one. Hmmm…

books And here’s a pair of vintage French books La France: Géographie,Tourisme filled with wonderful old black and white photos and maps…for only $13 for both of them! I have seen them on French eBay for around $40 for both volumes.

009 And finally, I found this little tea pot souvenir from someone’s visit to Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana…one of the places I have always wanted to visit. I have thought about starting a little souvenir collection of places I want to check out just in case I never get there. Or maybe I should just buy the guitar-playing cats in the background! lol
But…hang on…our outing is not over! We are not too far from the Ballard Designs Outlet and I have a coupon…so let’s go check it out, too.

047 Now here, I have to say, I must forget my $12 limit if I ever want to buy anything at all! It’s all waaaay above that!  But it doesn’t hurt to look! I am drawn to these huge Anduze-style pots…especially the white ones.

023You may remember that I made my own smaller version. You will find a tutorial for making your own Anduze posts here.

plaques
I have admired these frenchy wall plaques for a while now and even considered using one as a headboard after a bit of painting…but they are a tad fancy-schmancy for my house.

Clocks Woah! Clock lovers will drool over this…piles and piles of them…all lined up like spare parts in a clock factory!

ottoman Of course, the frenchy fabric on this ottoman stopped me in my tracks…love it!

050 But only this one really made me have to give a little thought to reconsidering my price range…a fabulous French oak leaf plaster wreath! But…it was $50 and even with a coupon, too expensive for me. And…where would I put it? I have to admit that I have walked around my house to see if I could find a place. Maybe another trip there before Memorial Day weekend?

kittyOr…maybe not! Miss Kitty says some things are worth more than a good bargain…like a good nap! And…what came home with me? I’ll show you in my next post!

  1. Some great things at your Goodwill, Debbie! You found my last tureen! I just need one more to complete the collection above one section of my kitchen cabinets. It's been a couple of months now since I have seen one. Great lamp.

  2. Oh my tons of good things. I can't wait to see what you got. Hugs, Marty

  3. Hi Debbie,
Thanks for taking me along on your thrift shopping. I would have bought just about everything you featured, or at least considered. I find that I talk myself out of things these days, just because I already have one or don't have a place for it. I would have bought that Oak Alley tea pot though as a remembrance of when we visited in March. It was wonderful! ~Delores

  4. Wish I hadn't seen the plaster wreath. I WANT IT! Oak leaves, acorns and I need a wreath for an objet I just bought. Shopping here in New Orleans is not nearly as full of buying potential. Looking forward to seeing what treasures followed you home.

  5. I can't believe how great your Goodwill is! Ours is nothing like this and I would have jumped at so many of the things you found. At Ballard's, too! My biggest thing now is just asking myself simply...where would I put it? lol!

    Jane

  6. Your Goodwill has far nicer things than the ones around here! I have no idea why I want one, but I would have snatched up that champagne bucket faster than you could blink! I would probably use it as a planter.
I love your cutting board transformation.
    Have a great week, Debbie...

  10. Debbie, if you just knew how much I love that soup tureen! Can you tell who makes it? Any markings on the bottom of yours? Since I saw yours I've haunted ebay, just trying to find one. So pretty.

  11. What wonderful things you found at Goodwill this time around, Debbie--I loved them all and would have had a hard time choosing what to bring home!

  12. I'll admit you're Goodwill is MUCH better than mine, too. We don't have anything like those items here in TX. I'd have bought everything you saw! I've been referring folks on HGTV Rate My Space to your blog for some French Country inspiration, so you should be getting some traffic and new fans!

  14. What a tease!! I had fun walking around with you! I would have bought the books for sure and maybe the cutting board since I don't have one like that to make your project! So I can't wait to see what you did bring home! Ballard's is awesome but so $$$$$!

On another note, have you been getting hit with a lot of spam on your blog lately? I put up a post on mine this morning about it. Im getting killed with it lately.. not sure whats going on or why..

  21. Wow......I have to say you found so many wonderful things, I'm envious. But aren't you the tease? LOL

  22. It really was a good day for thrifting! You spotted some wonderful finds! I too, struggle with seeing the potential an item has and being able to walk away from it. I'm getting better but still not cured. And isn't it funny how you can go to the thrift store for weeks and not find anything then one day find so many fabulous things?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Debbie, I've been out of been out of town for two days and am playing catchup on posts. Love all the things you spotted, and I think I would have gone home with that champagne cooler. I have one that was a wedding present, but a girl can't have too many! They look great with floral arrangements, and that one is POLISHED! ;-)

You are such a tease. What did you buy? I haven't a clue because I like all the stuff you found. I am guessing the French books. You could sell them on eBay and turn a profit. Did you get the globe for the boys???

    XO,

    Sheila

  28. It is always so fun and interesting "visiting" other areas Goodwills!!!! Our tags in Oregon are so different from anything else I have seen elsewhere. Unfortunately, our prices are also much higher than yours. Sheesh. It's kind of out of hand. Lots of cool stuff on your shopping trip I would have gladly scooped up! :)

  29. I really enjoyed shopping with you, and who know Ballards had an outlet, good thing I don't live by one.

  31. I really think you should have bought those guitar-playing cats. What a statement piece they would be! I'm sure the staff would approve.

Why does it always seem that Goodwill is always better in someone else's neighborhood. And after seeing your photos, I am definitely planning a field trip to the Ballard outlet when I'm in Atlanta for Haven.

  32. Wow...love the great bargains you found Debbie! I love me some goodwill hunting as well! I can hardly wait to see what you brought home with you.

Stopping by today from Dorothy Sue and Millie B's too!

  33. That was fun! Thanks for taking me along. I hope you bought the champagne bucket and the books- for resale! The bucket would sell for double that in my Goodwill. I bet you bought the lamp! Am I right?? I know you love you some French design!

    Have a wonderful weekend!
