Frenchy Rooster Chalkboard

Here’s a project I’ve had in mind for about three months but could never find what I needed…until the other day! My friend Linda at Nina’s Nest and I were out Goodwill hunting when I saw it! Linda always says that if you look long enough, the thing that you are searching for will show up…and it did!

before-horz I have been wanting to make an oh-so-frenchy rooster chalkboard to use as a door hanger, but could never find the just right rooster! I had even considered cutting one out of foam board, but I’m glad I waited! This little guy was perfect and only cost $2.50yaay! First, I first had to disassemble it a little so that I could use it. It was standing on that star (which I will use later) and had that thingy attached to its tail. I think a part was missing, but it didn’t matter. Next, I painted it with two coats of chalkboard paint.

afterFinally, I tied knots in the ends of a length of twine and hot-glued them to my rooster to give it a more vintage look and…taa daa! This is one of the easiest projects I have ever done! For the perfect finishing touch, I added a little frenchy Bonjour…

bk Hey! Wait! Careful, Baby Kitty! Don’t mess up all my hard work! I think he’s feeling a little "fowl" today! lol

toile bedroomAnd at last my rooster chalkboard has found its way to the place where I have been picturing it for three months…on the door to my black and white toile bedroom! Ahhh!

And a footnote...Now that I finally found a rooster shape, I see they have them at Michaels...reduced to 79 cents! I bought two any way! You never know when you might need a rooster!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my rooster chalkboard! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!Stephanie Lynn at Under the Table and Dreaming for the Sunday Showcase Party

  1. One of your best projects yet. Did you paint that doorknob, too? If so, that is a great idea for tired hardware.

  11. Debbie,
Love your creativity "shining through" once again, dear friend! This latest project may have given those of us in the Land of Blog something to crow about, even if it wasn't the cat's meow to Baby Kitty. He probably just needs some more patio time with the rest of THE STAFF...and YOU!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
