Mosaic Monday/Outdoor Wednesday...or...Backyard Visitors

lizards 2 Several families have moved into my backyard this Summer and I would like to introduce them to you! First, there is this family of little green lizards who have moved into my flower garden! They sit very still and check me out while I snap their pictures! The one in the upper right is a tiny baby, only about an inch long! Cute!

bluebird worm I also have a bluebird family! They are working on their second set of babies this year, but in the same nesting box. The mommy is still sitting on the eggs, but since it’s plenty hot here during the day, they take nice long breaks to catch a few worms!

IMG_7313 Here’s a baby fly visiting my hydrangea. Yes, I know…yucky, but you’ll have to say that his iridescent green body and big, buggy eyes along with those rainbow wings make him worth a look!

IMG_7237 I planted verbena for the first time this year and the butterflies love it! I know this photo looks like I colorized it in some way, but I didn’t! I think this is an Eastern Black Swallowtail.

IMG_7324But the best visitor is the one that got away! Here’s our CEO Ozzie checking out the flower bed along the shrubbery. She had been like this for a long time when we heard a terrible ruckus coming from the downspout! The staff ran inside and I went to see what it was. I removed the end piece and finally a baby bunny came out and quickly hopped away! Darn! Where was my camera when I really needed it?? I guess the little guy was trying to get away from her and tried climbing inside the downspout! There was never any real danger, as Ozzie is basically a lovable dust mop with legs! lol But don't tell her I said that!

big bunny UPDATE! I have since been able to sneak a photo of the cute little rascal lurking in the outer reaches of the yard! Needless to say, the staff has been confined to headquarters until the little thing figures out how to get out of the fence! They only go outside in my company for very short romps anyway!
Thanks for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed meeting my visitors. To see more mosaics, please visit our gracious hostess Mary for Mosaic Monday at her beautiful blog Little Red House to see who is participating this week!
image5 And to see some wonderful photos of the great outdoors, please head over to visit our hostess with the mostest, Susan at her amazing blog A Southern Daydreamer for Outdoor Wednesday! See you next time! A la prochaine!

  1. Wow Debbie, you have a veritable wildlife preserve in your yard! I love those little green lizards - are they the kind that puff out little orange sacks on their necks when they are threatened? Mom has lots of those and they just crack me up. Ozzie must be quite proud of her hunting ability - did she scold you for letting the bunny get away? Have a great week. Kathy

I didn't know your staff worked outdoors as well! Very adaptable, eh? And Ozzie, meek as he may be, is showing who is the boss in the garden!!!

    Great post, Debbie! :-)

  27. These are terrific pictures and mosaics! I love having lizards in my yard to eat up all the "bad guys" who want to eat up my plants. Chloe likes to chase them back under the shed while they are sunning themselves but they should really know that she is secretly afraid of them and if they didn't run she would! Truly all bark and no bite!

  37. Isn't that funny; we are in the same state! I'm about an hour and a half south of Sonny's business office.... actually pretty close to his hometown.

Lucky you this time of year! I enjoy teaching (and am a second career teacher, so it's still new to me), but it's the hardest thing I've ever done! I used to work for a university and put in tons of overtime and weekend work, but this tops that by a long shot. (And I traded in 25% of my pay to do this!)

  38. Debbie:

My first French exchange student of the summer has just completed his stay and is on the way back to France. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. It was funny that he got hooked on my Texas Sweet Iced Tea. We went to a restaurant and he ordered the tea only to say oh I can't drink this, it doesn't taste anything like yours. He even took my simple recipe home for his Mother. We are expecting 1 or 2 new students for the second half of the summer exchange program tomorrow. After chaperoning all the field trips I have learned its much easier to deal with boys than girls.

  51. so pretty...

I am starting a NEW Mr. Linky party. It will begin on Aug 10th so everyone will have a week and a half to think about their first post. I have a poll up for votes on which button should be the new button. The "party" is called The Knock Off Knock Out-where THRIFTY meets creative sensation. Go over and learn more about the new weeky event and I would appreciate if you would cast your vote and HELP pick the new button design and its the last week for the July GIVE-A-Way, if you would like to be a part of that event..

  53. Debbie, what fabulous photos you are taking! What kind of camera are you using? You are getting such stunning close ups of the wildlife. That butterfly is gorgeous! As I was reading about all of the critters, I wondered how your "staff" was handling all of these new residents. That had to be a shock when that bunny came out of your drain spout! Great post! laurie
